The Metropolitan Museum of Art Public Cafeteria

As part of its Capital Improvement program, the Museum constructed the new Public Cafeteria and Public Entrance, which opened in 2003. As Construction Manager, RCDolner was responsible for completion of these projects, inclusive of a new kitchen, loading dock upgrades, staff offices, and other public amenities.

A new entrance was created to connect the new cafeteria with existing gallery spaces. Two existing stair towers were removed to allow for the installation of new stairs, elevators, and public restrooms. Adjacent Gallery spaces were modified to accommodate the new elevator lobbies and stairways.

Extensive coordination was required in order to accommodate the continuation of Museum functions, with minimal impact on the public. In addition, RCDolner completed the installation of a satellite café in the Petrie Sculpture Court, to augment the new Cafeteria installation.

Work completed within the Sculpture Gallery included a new warming kitchen, pantry, and custom built coffee and juice bar.
