The Metropolitan Museum of Art Wing K

RCDolner is involved in the renovation and expansion of all the spaces comprising Wing K of the Metropolitan Museum of Art: the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas (AAOA) Gallery, the Greek & Roman Galleries, Uris Center for Education, 19th Century Galleries, administrative office space, and the Islamic Galleries (currently under renovation).

As part of the project, a completely new mezzanine level was created within the Greek & Roman Galleries. Within the new AAOA Gallery, the installation of 200-foot long steel truss allowed for a gallery free of structural columns while also providing structural support for the newly created 19th Century Gallery rooms located above. Aside from the complexities due to conducting work at a high-profile fully-operational site, much of the work was performed adjacent to existing gallery spaces where both climate control and protection of valuable artwork was critical.
